Softly
the doors close
quickly behind me
the windows
they lock
as if they are ancient
they creak
a head rests on the sill
Why is it here?
and then the ceilings
shivering
as if with fear
moving
are the mice
nibbling at the floor
of the attic
my ceiling
a giant bug
crawls
out into the open
I hear a scream
I can't tell
if I am connected
to that noise
the door opens
the windows creak
again
they are open too
I walk out
to find
a headless chicken
waiting for me
at the door.
